We’re Ok with a retailer’s right to enforce a “you break it, you buy it” policy. What we don’t appreciate is a bad attitude and CURSING! After telling the owners that we plan to write an online review, the owners miraculously offered to cancel the sale. When we declined their offer and walked out the door, the male owner said “That’s cowardly Chicken Shi[].” No, it’s the power of the internet!
I've visited Island Outfitters for years. I can't believe anyone has had a bad time there. I read two bad reviews. One guy returned a kayak unhappy. Even though he knew the return policy, he still complained. I'm guessing he should vacation in the mountains from now on. The other complaint was about some college aged kid who broke an expensive Yetti Cup. If you can't afford to pay for it, maybe you shouldn't be shopping here. Parents, keep your kids away from the nice stuff. Hmmm, college age? Was alcohol involved??? Just saying. My family all love this place. Even Layla, the hairy security dog. We have bought all kinds of fishing gear here, and it's paid for itself in fresh seafood dinners. All Caught on St George Island. With info from Larry and Angela. Love you guys!!!
My sisters, cousin and I (all college-aged) and my uncle stopped by Island Outfitters to rent paddleboards; unfortunately, my sister dropped a Yeti cup (30 oz.) while shopping, resulting in a 1 millimeter chip (no dent) to the powder coating on the bottom edge of the cup. What appeared to be the husband-wife owners were quick on the scene and very curt in telling us that we had to buy the cup - at the full retail price of $54.99. My uncle explained that we’re all students, pay ALL our own college expenses, and can’t afford it. The female owner offered to include a straw (an open-box display, no less) which was already on the cup with a lid. My uncle told her that we didn’t want to buy the lid/straw, so he removed it and placed it on the counter. The owner put it back on the cup, insisting that it was included. Frustrated with the owner’s attitude and failure to offer any reasonable discount, my uncle again removed the lid/straw, and dropped it in the trash telling her that we will only pay for the damaged cup. The owner applied a 15% discount – one Yeti cup with neither lid nor straw for $50.01 (tax included)!!
We have taken family vacation on SGI for over 40 years now and LOVE to stop by Island Outfitters every trip. They carry everything that each of our family members like to shop for and the highest quality products.
Terrible...rented one boat paid more for a three day rental than a close by company would do two boats for seven days
I love this place! The customer service is just right... they let you browse to your heart's content, and then happily and thoroughly answer any questions you may have. They carry several of my family's favorite brands at competitive prices. We come to the island a few times each year and go to this store at least once each time. And Layla, the shop dog, is the cutest!
